The Productivity Workflow Formula (PWF) Webinar Series

Wednesdays May 29 - July 3, 2013

Productivity Workflow Formula

This series includes six one-hour webinars on the six steps of the PWF from Laura's book What to Do When There's Too Much to Do: Reduce Tasks, Increase Results, and Save 90 Minutes a Day (Berrett-Koehler 2012).

These days, everyone is busy. Advances in technology mean there is more information to sort through than ever. Work hours have increased, but to-do lists are endless - schedules get blown in the first five minutes of the day. You could spend more time “planning” and “prioritizing” your list than actually doing the work! At work and in life, we all just have too much to do! And when you have too much to do, it’s hard to feel productive.

If you can’t do everything, you need to put your time and energy into what will yield the more important results. Laura Stack shows how to hone in on the high-value tasks, protect the time to do them, focus on their execution, and organize your life around the stuff that really matters. Her innovative, step-by-step Productivity Workflow Formula (PWF) allows you to spend less time and achieve greater results than you ever thought possible. We can no longer do more with less – we can’t put in more hours or work harder than we are now – we have to work differently and do less to achieve more.

Times for all webinars in this series: 10:00 AM Pacific — 11:00 AM Mountain — 12:00 PM Central — 1:00 PM Eastern

Wednesday, May 29, 2013 - STEP 1: What Are You Working On? Where Should You Spend Your Time?

Productivity, in its most meaningful sense, is all about reaching high-value goals in every area of your life, often in the shortest amount of time. Everyone has “too much to do,” and nobody cares how many things you crossed off your list or how “busy” you were last week if key projects are falling through the cracks. At the end of the day, all that matters is results. That means you need to be very sure that your time is not only accounted for, but has real value. In this webinar, we’ll learn to separate the wheat from the chaff. You will discover what you’re really supposed to be working on.

Wednesday, June 5, 2013 - STEP 2: Where Did the Day Go? Finding Time in Your Schedule to Complete Important Tasks.

Once you know exactly what you’re supposed to be working on, you have to find the time to do it. You have to structure your schedule very carefully to ensure you get the right things done. If you don't, other people will be perfectly happy to dictate your day for you. You have to be willing to protect your time from everyone who wants a piece of it. After all, time isn't like money, office supplies, or Brussels sprouts: we've each got a very limited amount of it, and we're not going to get any more. You must fully commit to making the changes necessary to take control of your time.

Wednesday, June 12, 2013 - STEP 3: Avoid Distraction and Focus Your Attention on Critical Priorities.

Once you’ve set aside time to work on your key activities, you must focus on doing them. Here’s where the rubber hits the road and your nose hits the grindstone: you actually have to see a task through to completion! Concentration is a long-lost skill that separates the successful from the unsuccessful. Some people can’t stop the busyness long enough to work. No wonder they feel like there’s too much to do! Instead, focus, focus, focus. Laura’s special four-step focus process will help you stay focused, and you'll be amazed at what you can get done—and how good that will make you feel—when you actually see a single task through completion.

Wednesday, June 19, 2013 - STEP 4: Processing New Information: Systematically Allowing New Information into Your World.

To be organized and productive, you need to be able to put your hands on what you want, when you want it. You have to find all the information you need to complete particular tasks. With pieces of important information spread across 20 different emails, piles of paper, and voicemail covering the same topic area, how do you stay organized? You’ll learn Laura’s original processing methodology to help you make quick decisions and get information into the right place, so you can access it immediately.

Wednesday, June 26, 2013 - STEP 5
: Closing the Loop with Others: Increase Efficiency and Streamline Processes.

Closing the loop means you’re constantly communicating about alignment with others: hitting goals, meeting deadlines, fulfilling promises, and committing to teamwork. Did you meet the commitments and promises you made to the people who rely on you? Status changes can occur by the minute, so as you get new information, you’re constantly weeding out and adding to what must get done for spectacular performance. You have to re-connect with your leadership and your teams, reaffirm your important tasks, and verify the strategic direction. There’s also a continuous improvement component: when a process seems unusually long and inefficient, do what you can to make it easier for everyone.

Wednesday, July 3, 2013- STEP 6
: Manage Your Productive Capacity with Physiological Self-Care Strategies.

Energy is capacity: the potential to do work, to enjoy life, and to achieve your goals. It’s hard to be productive when you feel like putting your head down on the desk and taking a nap. You have the potential to dramatically affect your productivity by paying closer attention to your health. Many people eat too much, drink too much, don’t exercise enough, work too much, and don’t sleep enough. So it’s not surprising you’re less than fully productive when tired or ill. The choices you make today will affect how you feel tomorrow. When you feel well, you can accomplish more.
